Your Ideas please...

The last few weeks have really opened our eyes to the help many drivers need. There are many different things that they need. One that we hope to have a solution for is when folks find them selves out of the truck and really needing a hand. We have been working with different groups, The Red Cross, United Way, Salvation Army and Churches to help different drivers. All have been a great help.
When you happen to find a driver that lived out of their truck. They find them selves job less and homeless. Some of these folks have no family to turn to, no friends that have a place for them to stay. We have found shelters to be a help to some.
Trucker Charity Inc is trying to work a network of "Truckers Shelters". Our plan is to build a network of places that those needing a roof over their head and a place to work from to find a new job. We have feelers out to some of the Hotel Chains that offer "executive" Rooms with a stove, refrigerator, phone, internet and fax service. We hope to build a great way to get folks into a room cheap and fast. We want to have a price point of about 150.00 a week MAX billed to Trucker Charity Inc. With hope, we will be able to have different chains available all over the country.
When we get a driver needing shelter. We can get him into a room and get them some money for food. This we think will be the most cost effective way to get these drivers housed while they can complete there job search. Once hired on with a carrier they can get a bus ticket from the carrier to their new place of employment.
Now, this would not be for everyone. Yet, when we find drivers that are stranded, homeless and wanting to get back to work. We know they can be warm, in a safe place with the tools they need to find a driving job.
We are also going to be working on getting motel and hotel rates locked in to house drivers for a night or two. As it would help speed things up alot if we already had a list of places and the rates to get these drivers a room. Nothin worse then finding that we can get a driver a plane ticket home for only 125 bucks then the hotel room is 125 bucks. We need to get the most bang for the donations we can.
While I wish we could even more then we already do. We can only work with what we have. Donations have been a bit lax, but that is expected witht he time of year and all that is going on.
We want your ideas. Please, let us know what you can think of.
